MUN UPDATES
Be sure to follow this page along with the GroupMe updates (our main method of communication) for important information. This page will mainly discuss what we do in meetings, and will not be as up to date as our GroupMe.
Thanks to Jax Burgers and everyone who came out to make our spirit nights succesful! We greatly appreciate all of your support. If you haven't already gone to Jax, please do so; they have awesome food!

We had a very interesting discussion on "the World's Drug Problem". Using Parliamentary Procedure, many of you gave very nuanced and thoughtful speeches examining the various sides of the world's drug problem. We are looking forward to future discussions!
Also, we highly encourage all of you to eat at Jax Burgers on Broadway by Kroger. If you tell them you are with Dawson Model UN on November 8th and 9th, Wednesday and Thursday, we get 20% of your purchase. All the money we get from them will go to HAMUN's and other Conference's fees! If you show us a receipt of your purchase you get 1 MUN point! Meeting Summary:
For your convenience, the fee will be put in your Skyward account-- just like any other school fee-- once you agree to pay the $40 dollars.
Today, we had our second discussion meeting of the year. More than 30 members came to discuss Catalonia's Independence and/or North Korean Nuclear Proliferation. This was the second instance we exposed our members to a structure similar to the Parliamentary Procedure used in Model UN conferences. Also, after a vote we decided to discuss North Korean Nuclear Proliferation and we had an animated and interesting discussion regarding that topic. Important Club Details: 1) Answer the form about attendance to HAMUN, if you haven't already. Here is the link: https://goo.gl/forms/4hWwCIJsG68CwIBC3 Today will be the last day you can answer this form 2) If you would like to go to the Delegate Resource Workshop at Westchester Academy on Thursday, please respond to our Remind message before that day. (EDIT on 10/24/17: Only officers will be going to the workshop.)
We discussed the following in today's meeting:
We had a VERY successful & fun Flock Party. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and donated for/to our booths! All the funds that we earned today will go to funding our attendance to HAMUN and other conferences!
Special thanks to Mr. Childers, Mr. Robb, Mrs. Sirmon, Mr. Sirmon, Mrs. Hansen, Coach Meyers, and Mrs. Cummings for getting pied in the face multiple times for our club! Today, we had our first discussion meeting of the year. Despite the fact that this was an optional meeting AND a Friday afternoon, more than 20 members came and participated in our insightful discussion on the death penalty. We were also able to expose the participants to a discussion structure similar to the Parliamentary Procedure used in Model UN conferences.
Edit: Interestingly, the United Nations' Human Rights Council recently voted on a resolution about the Death Penalty. Here is a link to the full resolution: http://ilga.org/downloads/HRC36_resolution_question_death_penalty.pdf Once again, thanks to everyone who came to our meeting. We still had a crazy amount of students coming. Some of the key points we discussed were:
Today was our first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you all for coming. It was amazing to see more than 80 of you in the LGI as Elizabeth and I gave our presentations. We hope all of you found our presentation and club interesting and that everyone that went will attend our future meetings. We are looking forward to have a successful year with all of you! If you have any questions, just contact us through Remind, e-mail, or even through this website's contact form (on the front page). Also, we will be having a makeup meeting tomorrow in Mr. Fahler's room for everyone who was not able to attend this one. It begins at 6:45 and is in portable 19. Below is the PowerPoint presentation we used in today's meeting and the one we will use tomorrow.
Due to Hurricane Harvey, the first MUN meeting will be postponed to a later day. We will announce when that day will be once the weather gets better. Stay safe everyone.
