Dawson Model UN's Fifth Diplomacy Night, March 30th, 2023
Guest Speaker: Diplomat Morten Siem Lynge
Our fifth Diplomacy Night was held on March 30th, 2023 at the Pearland Westside Library with Mr. Morten Siem Lynge. Mr. Lynge is the second Consulate General of Denmark in Houston. As the Consul General, he shares Danish interests across the Southern United States.
Throughout the evening, Mr. Lynge regaled us with stories from before he was a Consul General, as a Consultant at the British Consultant Group and from his time in the Danish Foreign Service. Focusing on global environmental issues, Mr. Lynge taught our delegates important ways to combat pollution that are actually implemented around the world. Thank you to Mr. Lynge, for this fun and informative evening, and the Pearland Westside Library. We are excited for the opportunity to host more Diplomacy Nights next year.

Dawson Model UN's Second Diplomacy Night, October 25th, 2019
Guest Speaker: Former Diplomat Professor Richard Sindelar
Dawson Model United Nations hosted our second official Diplomacy Night on October 25, 2019 with Professor Richard Sindelar. There, Professor Sindelar spoke to our delegates about the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation. Through his extensive knowledge of foreign relations, he was able to teach us about American foreign policy, international security, international law, and foreign trade.
Using his experience as a foreign diplomatic officer of 22 years, he told us oftentimes thrilling and exciting accounts of working in the foreign relations field and captivated the attention of many young minds. Our Diplomacy Night allowed us to learn the importance of foreign diplomatic relations from a firsthand experience and provided valuable insight into the foreign service. We hope to continue to host Diplomacy Nights with a multitude of inspirational guest speakers and we would like to send our thanks to Professor Sindelar for participating in our event.

Dawson Model UN's First Diplomacy Night, February 8th, 2019
Guest Speaker: Former Diplomat Sri Preston Kulkarni
We are proud to have inaugurated our club's very first Diplomacy Night! Students from Glenda Dawson High School, Shadow Creek High School, and British International School attended Diplomacy Night, which took place at Spring Creek Barbecue. We invited guest speaker Sri Preston Kulkarni, a United States diplomat, to speak to our club about the importance of diplomacy and international relations in our society. Kulkarni had served in the US Foreign Service for 14 years, and recently ran to represent our district in the US House of Representatives.
Mr. Kulkarni discussed his experiences as Model UN member in his youth, stressing the importance of an early start to understanding the importance of understanding international politics. He reminisced on his career as a foreign service author, including his extensive work at the US consulate in Taiwan. He discussed the training he received as a foreign service officer and the role of civic discourse in our society.
A special thanks to Mr. Kulkarni for taking the time to talk to our students about diplomacy, Model UN, and international relations. His service as a diplomat overseas is an inspiration to our members. A further thanks to Vidya Muthupillai and the other MUN officers for organizing this event. Our first Diplomacy Night was a testament to the importance of civic discourse in our society: it was humbling to see students from different schools in our area come together for a night of fun, food, and foreign affairs. We look forward to hosting more Diplomacy Nights in the coming months.
